The secret to packing for a coastal resort is realising how relaxed the days actually are. You'll live in a swimsuit and a linen shirt, dress up gently for dinner, and want a warm layer for the evening breeze off the water. Everything else, the resort tends to provide. Here's how to fill one bag and forget nothing.
The essentials
Start with the things that make or break a beach day, then build outward:
- Two swimsuits — so one can dry while you wear the other.
- Reef-safe sunscreen (SPF 30+), a hat and sunglasses. The coastal sun is stronger than the sea breeze makes it feel.
- Light layers: linen, cotton and one sweater or wrap for cooler evenings.
- Comfortable sandals plus one pair of shoes you can walk or hike in.
- A refillable water bottle — there are fountains around the grounds.
- One smart-casual outfit for dinner at a seaside restaurant.
The little things people forget
These are the items guests most often wish they'd brought — small, cheap and easy to overlook:
- A dry bag or zip pouch for phones and passports at the beach.
- A portable charger for long days out exploring the coast.
- After-sun or aloe, just in case the first day gets away from you.
- Any regular medication, in its original packaging.
- A tote for wet swimwear on the trip home.
Dressing for dinner
Coastal resort dining is elegant but rarely formal. Think “relaxed and put-together”: a sundress, or trousers with a linen shirt, and sandals you're happy to walk to your table in. One versatile outfit usually covers the whole stay. If you're celebrating something special and wondering whether to pack that extra jacket, just ask us — our assistant can tell you the dress code for each of our restaurants before you zip your bag.
