The stretch of coast around Azure Bay enjoys one of the gentlest climates in the United States: mild, dry summers and green, temperate winters. There is no bad time to come — but there is a best time for you, and it depends on whether you're chasing warm evenings, quiet beaches or the lowest possible rate.
Season by season
Understanding the rhythm of the coast makes planning easy. Each season trades something for something else — sunshine for crowds, savings for a little morning fog.
- Spring (March–May): Wildflowers on the hills, whales offshore and pleasantly warm days. Our favourite season, and rates are still gentle before summer.
- Summer (June–August): Warmest water and long golden evenings. Also the busiest — book early and expect the beaches to be lively.
- Autumn (September–October): Arguably the sweet spot. The famous “second summer” brings clear skies, warm sea and thinner crowds.
- Winter (November–February): Cool, quiet and green, with the year's best value and dramatic sunsets. Pack a light layer for the evenings.
Choosing your moment
Once you know the seasons, match them to what you want from the trip:
- Warmest swimming: late July through September, when the ocean is at its friendliest.
- Fewest crowds: weekdays in late autumn and winter — you'll often have the tide pools to yourself.
- Best value: midweek stays from November to March, when direct rates are lowest.
- Whale watching: grey whales in winter and early spring; humpbacks and blue whales through the summer.
A note on weekends and holidays
Whatever the season, weekends and public holidays fill first and price highest. If your dates are flexible, shifting a stay by even a day or two — arriving on a Sunday instead of a Friday, say — can open up better rooms and better rates. Not sure which week suits you? Our assistant can compare availability across a whole month in seconds and tell you when the sea is warmest and the resort quietest.
